Brief Story of Gokarna
When Shri Gokarna Kshetra was sunk in the sea, Lord Vishnu performed penance to Surya Deva and, holding the Sudarshana Chakra, pushed back the sea. Surya Deva then blessed this place, giving rise to the name Bhaskara Kshetra. By performing the Maha Sudarshana Yajna, enmity and ailments caused by witchcraft and black magic are said to be completely nullified.
People who encountered an unnatural death — through accident, poison, snakebite, or other bad ways — are said to obtain Preta Yoni, unable to attain Mukti or Moksha on their own. Families affected by this can notice consequences like children struggling in studies, difficulty in marriage, family clashes, or repeated obstacles in business and life. To relieve these effects, Moksha Narayana Bali is performed; for liberation from Preta Yoni specifically, Tripindi Shraddha is performed. When followed by Rudragaya Shraddha, this is said to bring Moksha for seven generations before and seven generations after.
Nagabali is suggested for Vandya Dosha (difficulty having children), Sarpa Dosha, Rahu Graha Dosha, and dosha from witnessing the killing of a snake. These rituals are traditionally performed on Panchami, Shashthi, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Pournima, and Amavasya tithis, or on specific auspicious star days, with the family's own celestial timing also considered.
